$0 to $2.4M in 8 months scaling an ecom brand
About this episode
Nick and Solomon run a jewelry brand that did about $2.4 million in its first eight months and averages around half a million a month. Nick spotted the idea on a tattoo in his Instagram feed, there was no product to buy, so they started selling first and had it made.
They talk through scaling from about $1,000 to $15,000 a day within a week on Facebook ads, losing a manufacturer at 100 orders a day, a month of frozen payouts, six product batches, a DMCA fight with a competitor, the native cart beating an app cart, and the creative volume that saved the brand at $300K a month.
Key takeaways
- Fix the product from complaints. They went through six batches, testing 10 diameters for the adjustable part and different plating, and now pay a better manufacturer more per unit.
- Build the full store before the test. Solomon set up the site with pre-purchase and post-purchase upsells a few days in, and post-purchase alone is about 10% of revenue.
- Test your cart. Their native theme cart converted higher than the app cart, which had glitches that caused drop off.
- Volume of creatives wins. Three editors turn out 20 to 30 custom creatives a day, with 80% of budget doubling down on what works and 20% on new tests.
- Duplicate around a DMCA. When a competitor got their store products taken down, they duplicated about 400 products, set the copies active and kept selling.
