Search how long shipping from China to Canada or Australia takes and you get sea freight at a month or more, air freight at a few days and express couriers at 2 to 5 days. None of those is a parcel on a China line, which is how most orders to a customer in Toronto, Sydney or Auckland actually travel.

Measured on tracked parcels with a first carrier scan from May to July 2026, the median parcel took 11.2 days to Canada, 11.8 to New Zealand and 12.2 to Australia, from the first scan in China to the delivered scan. The medians are close. The slow end is not: 9 in 10 Canadian parcels arrived within 16.3 days, and 9 in 10 Australian parcels within 21.9.

This guide covers:

  • How long parcels from China take to Canada, Australia and New Zealand, measured
  • How far the slow end runs in each country, and why it matters more than the median
  • Where the days go, leg by leg, compared with the US
  • What delivery time to show at checkout for each country
  • How the numbers change in December
Days from the first carrier scan in China to delivered, May to July 2026: Canada median 11.2, middle half 9.9 to 13.2, 9 in 10 within 16.3; New Zealand median 11.8, middle half 9.9 to 14.0, 9 in 10 within 16.9; Australia median 12.2, middle half 10.1 to 16.0, 9 in 10 within 21.9; United States for reference median 11.9, 9 in 10 within 18.1
The medians sit within a day of each other. The slow end is where Australia pulls away.

How long each country takes: 11 to 12 days at the median

Counted from the carrier's first scan in China to the first delivered scan, on parcels that got one:

  • Canada: median 11.2 days. Half arrived between 9.9 and 13.2 days. 9 in 10 within 16.3.
  • New Zealand: median 11.8 days. Half between 9.9 and 14.0. 9 in 10 within 16.9, on a smaller sample.
  • Australia: median 12.2 days. Half between 10.1 and 16.0. 9 in 10 within 21.9.
  • United States, for reference: median 11.9 days, 9 in 10 within 18.1.

Your customer counts from the order, not from the first scan. Counted from the order, the medians were 12.1 days to Canada, 12.6 to New Zealand and 13.4 to Australia. The slowest 1 in 10 took more than 17.9 days to Canada, 18.2 to New Zealand and 24.0 to Australia.

Almost every parcel got there. A delivered scan showed up on 97.6% of parcels to Canada, 98.5% to Australia and 98.9% to New Zealand.

Australia's slow end runs about 5 days longer

The median says the three countries are the same trip. The slow end says they are not.

Share of delivered parcels that arrived within 14 days of the first scan, May to July 2026: Canada 80%, New Zealand 75%, United States 70%, Australia 65%
Two weeks from the first scan covers 4 in 5 Canadian parcels and about 2 in 3 Australian ones.
  • Within 14 days of the first scan: 80% in Canada, 75% in New Zealand, 65% in Australia
  • Within 21 days: 97% in Canada, 99% in New Zealand, 89% in Australia
  • More than 28 days: 0.9% in Canada, 3.2% in Australia

So about 1 Australian parcel in 30 took more than four weeks, against about 1 in 110 to Canada. Those are the orders that turn into "where is my order" emails and refund requests.

The tracking does not say why. Australia is a big country with a lot of distance between its cities, and a parcel to a regional address could take longer on the last leg, but the scans here cannot split city from regional addresses. What the numbers do support is planning for the slow end in Australia, not the median.

Where the days go

Splitting the trip into legs shows the same pattern as in Europe: the time in China is about the same wherever the parcel is going, and the difference is what happens after it leaves.

Median days per leg, May to July 2026: Canada 6.0 in China to departure, 2.1 flight and customs, 2.9 local carrier to door; Australia 6.9, 2.1 and 2.7; United States for reference 6.3, 0.7 and 4.2
Canada and Australia lose time in the air and at customs, and win most of it back at the door.
  • In China, from the first scan to departure: a median 6.0 days for Canada and 6.9 for Australia, against 6.3 for the US. This is collection, sorting and waiting for a flight.
  • Flight and customs, to the local carrier: 2.1 days for both Canada and Australia, against 0.7 for the US. That leg takes about a day and a half longer than it does into the US.
  • Local carrier to the door: 2.9 days in Canada and 2.7 in Australia, against 4.2 in the US.

Each leg is a median of its own, so they do not add up to the total. The New Zealand legs are left out: on its smaller sample the scans for the middle leg are too patchy to report.

Which lines carried these parcels

Most of the parcels in this sample went on YunExpress, a frontier line: 93% of the parcels to Canada, 96% to Australia and 84% to New Zealand, with most of the rest on Yanwen. So these are frontier-line numbers. A mid-tier or lowest-cost line could take longer on the same route, and the times above are not a promise for every line.

If you are choosing a line for these countries, the guide to China shipping lines compared explains the three tiers.

What to show at checkout

Your shipping rate name is the delivery promise your customer reads. A promise that holds for about 9 in 10 orders, counted from the order:

  • Canada: "Delivered in 10 to 18 days" could hold for about 9 in 10 orders
  • New Zealand: the same 10 to 18 days could work
  • Australia: "Delivered in 10 to 24 days" is closer to the truth for 9 in 10

The Australian range looks long next to Canada's, and it is tempting to show the same number for both. Showing 18 days to Australia means about 1 order in 4 arrives after the date you promised. On Canada's 18 days it is about 1 in 10. The guide to Shopify shipping settings for a store that ships from China shows where to set a rate per zone.

December is slower

These numbers are from May to July, outside peak season. In December the same routes slow down. Last year, orders to Canada and Australia placed from 1 to 15 December took about 19 to 20 days at the median, and orders placed in the first week of December were close to a coin flip for arriving by Christmas Eve.

For Christmas delivery to Canada, Australia or New Zealand, an order-by date at the end of November is the safer one to show. The Q4 shipping dates from China guide has the full calendar.

How to check it for your own store

  1. Export your last three months of orders to Canada, Australia and New Zealand with the order date and the delivered date.
  2. Work out the median and the slowest 1 in 10 per country, counted from the order.
  3. Count the orders over 28 days per country. That share is your refund risk.
  4. Compare with the rate name you show at checkout. If more than 1 order in 10 arrives after it, the promise is too short.
  5. Check which line each parcel went on. A line change shows up in these numbers within a few weeks.

What to do

  • Set a delivery promise per country, not one number for every country outside the US
  • Show a longer range for Australia than for Canada, about 24 days against 18 from the order
  • Plan support for the slow end, about 1 Australian parcel in 30 takes more than four weeks
  • Put an order-by date for Christmas at the end of November for all three countries
  • Measure from the order, because that is when your customer starts counting

How we handle this at Commercive

Commercive is your all in one sourcing and fulfilment partner. We ship from China on frontier lines like YunExpress, Yanwen and 4PX to more than 100 countries, including Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Every parcel's scans show in our dashboard from the first scan to the delivered scan, so you can measure your own times by country instead of trusting a quote. Our measured delivery times by line and country are on our shipping status page.

If you're currently running a brand, just give us the product and your daily order volume. We'll get you a quote within the next 24 hours to hold up against what you're paying today.

How we measured this. Every parcel shipped to Canada, Australia, New Zealand or the United States from stores we fulfil from China, with a first carrier scan between 1 May and 31 July 2026, test stores excluded, all lines. Times are calendar days from the carrier's first scan, or from the customer's order where stated, to the first delivered scan, on parcels that got one, measured on 10 October 2026 so every parcel had at least 71 days. Leg times are medians over the parcels that have both scans for that leg. The New Zealand sample is smaller than the others. December figures are from orders placed in December 2025. Line shares are within this sample and change with the products and stores in it.

How long does shipping from China to Canada take?

On parcels with a first carrier scan from May to July 2026, mostly on YunExpress, the median was 11.2 days from the first scan to delivered and 12.1 days from the order. 9 in 10 arrived within about 18 days of the order.

How long does shipping from China to Australia take?

The median was 12.2 days from the first scan to delivered and 13.4 days from the order. The slow end is longer than for Canada or the US: 9 in 10 arrived within about 24 days of the order, and about 1 in 30 took more than four weeks from the first scan.

How long does shipping from China to New Zealand take?

The median was 11.8 days from the first scan to delivered and 12.6 from the order, with 9 in 10 within about 18 days of the order. The sample is smaller than for Canada and Australia.

Why is shipping to Australia slower at the slow end?

The scans do not show the cause. The time in China and the flight and customs leg are about the same as for Canada. Distance between Australian cities and regional addresses could be part of it, but the data here cannot split them.

What delivery time should I show for Canada and Australia?

A range that holds for about 9 in 10 orders, counted from the order: around 10 to 18 days for Canada and New Zealand, and around 10 to 24 days for Australia, on frontier lines outside peak season. Check your own orders, since your line and products change the numbers.
